Once again, we'll be going to VisionCon, a small con in Springfield Mo. This will be our fourth year in a row. Their website is still down, and all we know at this point is that it'll be in February.
The first year, I met Mira Furlan (Delenn from Babylon 5)
The second year, I met Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse books)
This year, I met Brian Keene, among others.
Next year, who knows? The guest list and dates still aren't posted. lol

Cool, I've often thought about road tripping down for that one. I know some of the guys on the committee. They "push" it on another boards I'm on so the seed is further planted.

As expected, the con has been canceled. The woman running it, Joyce, spent too much time planning her daughter's wedding and lost the hotel. Only a month before the convention was supposed to happen, they finally announce they aren't having it, and they'll try again next year.
So, wonder what's going to happen for those who bought their tickets in advance for this year?

Mitch, I am sorry, but your information is incorrect.
Visioncon didn't happen this year because the hotel its normally in was bought out by another hotel chain, and they didn't renew Visioncon's contract.
This I know because I am a friend of Joyce Reedy, the head of Visioncon. She told me herself. I have been going to Visioncon for 11 years now and love it. Its a well done convention.

I am sorry, but YOUR information is incorrect. Mine comes from an email from 9/04/07, from staff member John Evans. While I will not divulge private information, what I can repeat is that they did not even have their first staff meeting until the first weekend of September, and that is when they found out Joyce had done literally nothing for the VisionCon, instead concentrating 100% on her daughter's wedding.
Instead of stepping aside and letting someone else plan the convention while she did her motherly duties, she tried to do it herself and failed.
It was due to this that they lost the hotel. New owners or not, because of her delays, they could not even begin looking until September, by which time everything was already booked for February.
She wanted to control it all, and because of it, the blame is solely hers.
I had a great time going down there, but it did get a little less "great" each year. They haven't even had a single media guest since Mira three cons ago.
